Chocolate Caramel Cookie Bars

Crust

2 cups flour
1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed
1/2 cup butter
1 cups whole or chopped pecans

Caramel & Chocolate Layer
12 caramels, unwrapped
2/3 c butter
1/2 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
1 cup milk chocolate chips

Combine flour and brown sugar, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. You can add your pecans to the crust, or save them to put on top of the cookie dough crust.  Press in 9×13 pan.

Combine butter, brown sugar, and caramels in microwave safe bowl for 3 minutes.  You may also do this on your stove top in a saucepan.   Pour over the top of your crust and spead evenly across the surface of your dough.  Bake 15 minutes in 350 degree oven. Remove from oven & sprinkle chocolate chips across the top of you caramel, and return to the oven for an additional 10 minutes.  You can add more chips if you'd like after the bars are done baking.

Cool in the pan on wire rack for 15 minutes. Cut into bars, and store in an airtight container in your refrigerator or freezer.
